History

FOST is a stockpile of oil pollution response equipment belonging to the TOTAL group.

It was created by Elf Aquitaine in 1993 following the explosion of the tanker MEGABORG and is now fully owned by Total following the merger of the groups TOTAL FINA and ELF in 1999.

The historical vocation of the FOST was to respond in France, in the Mediterranean basin, and in West Africa.

This geographical coverage determined the first localization of FOST, at the Marseilles-Provence airport.

In 2002, FOST moved to increase its storage space in particular. It is now in the commune of Rognac (13) a few kilometers from the airport.

The Megaborg
The Megaborg incident took place on June 8, 1990 in the Gulf of Mexico as the tanker was on its way to Galvestone.
This ship transported a cargo of 985 000 barrels of Angolan crude.
19 000 meters ³ of oil flowed in the ocean but did not lead to shoreline oiling.
